Canon announces 50D 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Canon's new EOS 50D bridges the gap between the novice and the seasoned pro with a perfect combination of high-speed and quality. It features an APS-C sized 15.1-megapixel CMOS sensor for tremendous images, new DIGIC 4 Image Processor for fine detail and superior color reproduction, and improved ISO capabilities up to 12800 for uncompromised shooting even in the dimmest situations. It features a refined 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots) monitor, supercharged Live View Function with Face Detection Live mode, plus a number of new automatic Image Correction settings and HDMI output for viewing images on an HDTV.

thoughts? it's a lot of camera for $1399!

Re:Canon announces 50D 3 Years, 5 Months ago
i wish they announced 5D MkII (or whatever its going to be called) instead for two reasons. first because i really want a 5D and that would have brought the price down and second because it would have been the exact same as the 50D but FF (plus some extras).

I'm not one at all to go after expensive cameras just because they're expensive and I've stuck with my 30D and love it so much even til now. If I had money i'd buy a 5D (or 5D MkII), keep the 30D as back up and spend every penny I had left on lighting and light modifiers.

BUT, i've seen some of the shots from a 50D and that thing handles high ISO like magic. But if you have a 40D i dont think it's worth the upgrade, I'd wait for the 5D MkII which should only be a few weeks away.

not sure if you've seen this or not yet:

http://vincentlaforet.com/

the video looks amazing to me. being able to shoot at such high iso (i heard 3200 at f/2 and 1/15s) makes the video look a bit like HDR which is pretty cool. I was never into video before but this makes me want to get pretty creative with it.

also, the nikon d90 (i think...) shoots video but it has this crazy problem where if you move the camera horizontally while you're shooting something vertical like a pole or a pillar (or person i guess) the sensor lags and your pole/pillar/etc. sway like a belly dancer... i cant find the video but it looked pretty bad.

personally, i normally never use iso past 100 for portraiture and i do, i sometimes like the look of the grain. i only really need one focus point so i dont even need the 1ds AF. i only care about image quality and the original 5d made incredible photos. the mkII looks even better and the video is a really cool added bonus which is why im saving up for it. ding!

I want the 5D mark II so much it hurts.

I don't know if I could justify getting out a loan for it though *sigh*
